The twisting, turning road of discipleship

When Jesus called Peter to come and follow, and "I will make you a fer of men" Peter had no idea where he was going or what he was going to be doing.  He followed.  He watched as Jesus prayed and then healed others.  He listened as Jesus taught, and brought his understanding of scriptures to Jesus for a new perspective.  More than once he argued with Jesus.....although Jesus certainly seemed to like a good debate.  As Peter followed, he became Peter - the apostle, the teacher, the healer, the one to share God's good news with thousands.

Peter was a fisherman, not a university professor or white collar worker.  He certainly wasn't a member of the clergy.  Yet Jesus calls him to carry the good news of God's love for all people - to tell them they are loved and that love heals their broken places.  Peter's job is to help people find the Jesus who is looking for them.

This is our job too.  Just like Peter we do not know where this call will lead us or what it will look like so we go out in faith to carry the faith to others.  If you've found a good deal on something that is essential to life....say vegetables!....wouldn't you share it with your best friends?  Jesus is essential to our lives, and the best deal in town.
