Humans have been responsible for the care of creation from day 1. Therefore we recycle. We educate ourselves about drilling for oil in the Alaskan frontier. We educate ourselves about the plus and minus of hydrofracking. We are concerned about toxic dumping in our rivers and lakes. Those who live anywhere near Onondaga Lake intimately know the dangers of unregulated, thoughtless dumping into a lake. Did you know what happens when coal companies strip mine in the Appalachian Mountains? The entire top of the mountain is slowly removed, coal extracted and then the earth dumped into the nearest valley.
Too big a problem for you? Then how about the litter in our neighborhoods and highways? How about decreasing the amount of trash we send to dumps weekly?
We may not be farmers but we have responsibilities. We are stewards of God's luscious creation. We enjoy its benefits year round in this lovely corner of the world. Perhaps there are more important things to consider than just how many jobs some scheme will create, or the cost of disposing of our toxic stuff properly. God planted us in this garden; let us take good care of it.
Stewardship: everything we do after we say 'I believe.'
