If Jesus were on twitter what would he have tweeted to the world?
If you think that the message Jesus brought to a dense, blind and deaf humanity was too deep for the 140 character limit of twitter, think again. According to the story, Jesus passed by Peter and Andrew after a night of fishing and said, "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men". On his way past Matthew's tax collecting booth all he said was "Follow me."
There is the word of forgiveness to his executioners "Father forgive them for they know not what they are doing." Or that powerful promise to the thief on the cross, "Today you will be with me in paradise." Don't forget my favorite, "This is my body given for you."
Perhaps as we wonder how to share the good news of Jesus we try to make it more complicated than it needs to be.
I was lost, now I'm found.
I lived in darkness, Jesus is the light.
I was crushed by the power of this world, now I'm lifted by God's love.
If God can love me, God can love anyone - and promises to do just that.
I have been forgiven; I have found wholeness in my life.
Come and see. Jesus is God's love for you too.
Tap into God's gift of life.
Tap into God's gift of life.
In the end, it is a simple message about the power of love to bring life to you, no matter who you are or what your life has been up to this moment. Following Jesus is about refusing the darkness wherever it is found.
It is about being the light wherever you are.
It is about being found and finding yourself.
It is about how the joy of giving outweighs the joy of receiving every time.
You can tell this story. Just keep it simple. Jesus did.
Love God. Love your neighbor.
AMEN
