Noah got a rainbow. Mary got an angel. Paul was struck blind and then in three days healed. Tabitha was raised from the dead. These are the God moments we want; those clear cut wonderful spiritual highs, those moments when God is so clearly at work, bringing life and filling us with the Holy Spirit.
We don't want to be called to close the door on the ark with our neighbors treading water. We don't want to stand by and watch Stephen be stoned to death. We don't want to be Bathsheba, called to the King's chamber for his personal pleasure.
As followers of Jesus, called by God into a life of faith, we are in a relationship with this Creating and Redeeming God. Although it a source of life and hope it can also be demanding and sometimes frightening. God is in the business of re-creating for life and peace the world God created in the beginning. Each of us along with all creation is being born again. Wonderful. Scary.
So, like Moses, we too turn to God and say, "God, go with us, or please do not ask us to go any further. Without you we are lost."
